ACRYLIC TEMPLATES & CRAFT AIDES
Rancher’s Bi-Fold Card Wallet Acrylic Template Set
Create a compact leather bifold that combines card storage with a convenient spring-bar money clip.
The Rancher’s Bi-Fold Card Wallet Acrylic Template Set includes the three primary pattern pieces needed to recreate Odin Leather Goods’ James Card Wallet design. The finished wallet offers the familiar fold of a traditional bifold while maintaining a simplified, low-bulk interior built around cards and folded currency.
Use the templates with a pencil, pen, scratch awl, or other leather-marking tool to transfer each component onto the leather. The rigid acrylic edges may also be carefully used alongside sharp leather knives and other appropriate cutting tools.
What’s Included
This three-piece acrylic template set includes the primary components needed to construct the Rancher’s Bi-Fold Card Wallet.
Relevant information is permanently laser-engraved directly onto the acrylic where applicable, including:
- Pattern-piece identification
- Piece orientation
- Pocket-alignment references
- Stitching guides
- Hole-punch locations and sizes
- Fold locations
- Skiving guidance
- Money-clip placement
- Assembly notes
Review all engraved markings before cutting, punching, skiving, gluing, stitching, or installing hardware.
Compact Bifold with a Money Clip
The finished design combines card pockets with a spring-bar money clip for folded bills.
This format is well suited for customers who want:
- The familiar shape of a bifold
- Dedicated card storage
- Quick access to folded currency
- Less bulk than a full billfold
- A compact wallet for everyday carry
The final carrying capacity will depend on the leather thickness, pocket construction, hardware selected, and how fully the wallet has broken in.
Spring-Bar Money Clip
The wallet is designed to accept a compatible spring-bar money-clip mechanism.
Before cutting or assembling the wallet:
- Confirm the dimensions of the selected money clip.
- Compare its mounting requirements with the engraved template markings.
- Verify the required hole size and spacing.
- Confirm that the leather thickness is compatible with the hardware.
- Test the clip’s movement and retention before final assembly.
- Ensure all hardware surfaces are smooth and securely installed.
Money-clip dimensions can vary by supplier. Confirm compatibility before committing valuable leather to the project.
Hand Stitch or Machine Sew
The wallet can be constructed using either:
- Traditional hand saddle stitching
- A leather-capable sewing machine
Choose the method that best fits your tools, experience, production needs, and desired finished appearance.
When machine sewing, consider presser-foot clearance and the combined thickness of the overlapping pocket and body layers.
When hand stitching, select a stitch spacing, thread size, needle combination, and hole style appropriate for the leather being used.
Choosing Your Leather
This wallet is generally best made from relatively thin, firm leather to control bulk where the body and card-pocket components overlap.
Suitable options may include:
- Vegetable-tanned leather
- Kangaroo leather
- Calfskin
- Goat leather
- Thin English bridle leather
- Thin harness leather
- Firm chrome-tanned leather
- A combination of exterior and interior leathers
When selecting materials, consider:
- The total thickness created by stacked components
- The firmness and temper of the leather
- The thickness limits of the money-clip hardware
- Whether the wallet will be lined
- Whether the edges will be burnished, painted, folded, or left natural
- Whether the wallet will be hand stitched or machine sewn
- The amount of structure desired in the finished piece
A thicker exterior may be paired with thinner interior leather to create structure without adding unnecessary bulk.
Test the selected leather and hardware combination before producing multiple wallets.
Plan the Assembly
Accurate pocket alignment and hardware placement are important to producing a wallet that folds evenly and functions correctly.
Before permanently assembling the wallet:
- Transfer all alignment, stitch, fold, and hardware references.
- Confirm the orientation of every component.
- Dry-stack the pieces in their intended order.
- Verify that the card-pocket openings remain accessible.
- Check that the wallet folds without excessive resistance.
- Confirm money-clip clearance and operation.
- Skive overlapping areas where indicated or necessary.
- Glue, stitch, and install the hardware in the proper sequence.
Small alignment errors become more noticeable as the layers are assembled, so review the template markings carefully before construction.
Make the Design Your Own
The compact bifold format provides room for customization through:
- Contrasting exterior and interior leathers
- Decorative hand stitching
- Names, initials, or monograms
- Maker’s marks
- Ranch or family brands
- Laser engraving
- Hand stamping
- Tooled exterior panels
- Custom pocket profiles
- Painted or burnished edges
- Decorative creasing
- Brass, nickel, or black hardware
The template establishes the essential proportions and component alignment while leaving the final leather, hardware finish, stitching, decoration, and edge treatment to the maker.
Designed for Repeatable Results
The rigid acrylic templates help you:
- Maintain consistent body and pocket shapes
- Position the interior components accurately
- Transfer stitch, fold, and hardware references
- Arrange the pattern pieces efficiently on the hide
- See grain, scars, color variation, and surface character beneath the tinted acrylic
- Avoid undesirable areas before cutting
- Reduce repeated measuring and pattern redrawing
- Reproduce the wallet for gifts, customer orders, or small-batch production
Built for Daily Workshop Use
Each Odin Leather Goods acrylic template is:
- Laser-cut from durable 1/8-inch tinted cast acrylic
- Built for frequent use in hobby and production workshops
- Transparent enough to see the leather beneath the template
- Suitable for use with pencils, pens, scratch awls, and other leather-marking tools
- Durable enough to carefully use alongside sharp leatherworking knives and cutting tools
- Permanently engraved with relevant notes and construction markings
- Designed and made in Texas by working leathercrafters
Unlike paper or cardstock patterns, the rigid acrylic will not easily bend, distort, tear, or wear out through repeated use.
Acrylic Color
Due to changing material availability and supply lines, your template may be made from green-, blue-, or orange-tinted acrylic. Acrylic color is not selectable and may vary from the product photographs.
The color does not affect the template’s dimensions, durability, markings, or functionality.
Important Notes
This listing is for the three-piece acrylic template set only. Leather, thread, needles, adhesives, money-clip hardware, tools, cards, currency, finished wallets, and other supplies are not included.
A supporting build video is not currently available.
The acrylic may arrive with a removable protective film on one or both sides. Remove the film before using the templates.
Money-clip hardware can vary in dimensions and mounting requirements. Confirm that your selected mechanism matches the template markings and finished leather thickness before construction.
Finished dimensions and carrying capacity may vary according to the leather thickness, hardware, stitch placement, edge treatment, and construction method selected by the maker.
