About Hermann Oak Harness Leather
Founded in 1881, Hermann Oak has been producing world-class harness leather in St. Louis, Missouri, since the days of westward expansion. More than 140 years later, it’s still considered the gold standard—trusted by working horsemen, saddlers, and craftsmen who demand leather that performs as good as it looks.
Hermann Oak Harness Leather starts with the same quality and traditional vegetable tanning that makers love, then goes a step further with a proprietary stuffing process that drives oils and tallow deep into the hide. The result is leather that’s smooth, strong, and exceptionally durable—ready for hard use while still maintaining a refined finish.
-
Traditionally vegetable-tanned for deep color and lasting quality
-
Proprietary stuffing for superior oil penetration and performance
-
Drum-dyed aniline finish for rich, custom color and a supple hand feel
-
Durable and rugged—ideal for belts, reins, harnesses, and heavy-duty projects
Sizing Note
Your belt size is not the same as your pant size. For the best fit, use our measuring guide. As a general rule, add 3–4 inches to your pant size if you can’t measure directly.
Care Instructions
-
Wipe or brush clean with a dry cloth
-
Condition occasionally with Blackrock Leather ‘N Rich or Smith’s Leather Balm to keep the leather supple and full of character
We do our best to keep our website and store inventory in sync, but it’s not always perfect. Sometimes there’s a belt, bag, or one-of-a-kind piece sitting on our store shelf that hasn’t made it online yet.
